The answer to the question of whether you can rank a youtube video in Google with SEO is Yes!
Sometimes, in our quest to get our web pages ranked highly in Google, we forget about using video to tell our story and generate leads right back to our web site. The fact is, using video as part of your internet marketing strategy is a great idea and here are the reasons why:
Reason #1 to Rank A Video: Google Loves Video
I cannot stress this enough. Maybe it is because Google owns Youtube, I don’t know. But I have had some really nice success getting one of my client’s videos a TON of traffic by building back links to the video for some fairly competitive keyword phrases.
Reason #2 to Rank A Video: Video Stands Out Amongst the Crowd
Personally, I don’t think it is good enough to have your website on page 1 of Google. You have to be in the top 5 in order to get any kind of traffic. I speak from experience because this website got virtually ZERO traffic until I reached the #4 position for my main keyword. But, guess what, if you get a video onto page 1, it stands out because of the little video icon that appears next to the listing in Google. Chances are a lot better that you will get some hits being in the 7th or 8th spot with a video, just because you stand out.
Reason #3 to Rank A Video: People Love Video
Maybe Google loves video because it knows we prefer video, too. Every time I have a choice between watching a how-to video or reading a how-to website, I will watch the video. I’m guessing you are the same way. Maybe I should have made this blog post into a video.
Reason #4 to Rank A Video: Not Everyone Is Doing It
I am waiting for the first call from a small business owner saying, “Can you help me rank my video?” So far, it has not happened. Everyone wants to get their website ranked; most people are not thinking about getting their video ranked in Google. I like to believe there are great benefits in going where no one else is going.
Reason #5 to Rank A Video: They Can Go Viral
If you create a great video that is educational, funny, and/or entertaining, you stand a good chance of having people forward your video link to their friends. Chances are that your video on giclee art prints will not be as widely viewed as the talking dog videos, but if you create something useful, people WILL refer others to it. The more your video moves up in the search rankings, the more people see it, and the better the chances that they are going to tell their friends about it – as long as you make a quality video.
