First Page of Google?

Are You On The First Page Of Google?

I was at a party the other night and a business owner was saying how they wanted to get their website to “the first page of Google“.

Still another told me their newly created Facebook page was already #3 for [enter random keyword here].

It seems to me
that “getting onto the first page of google” has become a buzz phrase for business owners eager to see their website appear in search results.

That’s terrific news for those of us who’ve chosen to provide SEO services as our work, but getting your business to the first page of Google is useless if no one is searching for your keyword term.

Let’s remember, the name of the game is to increase SALES.

And the way to increase sales is to get lots of qualified customers coming to your website.  This is how search engine optimizations works – it helps to get your website found by those who are already searching for the products and services you sell.

Let’s take a look at an example. I’ll use my site as the guinea pig.

Obviously, my site is called and if you Google my name, my site will show up.  I’m not sure if it’s on the first page of Google for the search term “Mike Munter” and I really don’t care.  Know why?  Because no one is searching for “Mike Munter” to find a company that offers affordable small business SEO services.  (At least not yet!)

But people are searching for companies that provide SEO services, search engine optimization services, and other terms related to affordable SEO.

Read how to develop a keyword strategy and find out which keyword term I did decide to rank this website for.

Want to see your website on the first page of Google?

If you want to reach the first page of Google for good, strong buyer keywords, it will take a lot of time and work.  Depending on your business niche, I’ve seen clients reach the first page of Google for their target keywords in as little as a week or two.  Sometimes, it just takes some good quality on-page optimization to get the job done.

But more often than not, it takes a long term commitment to a comprehensive search engine optimization strategy.  After you’ve completed your on-page optimization, the most effective way to move up in Google search results is to get backlinks to your site, from other sites on the web.  A backlink is like a “vote” for your website.  Get a lot of quality backlinks and you will start to see your site move up in the SERPs.

What I do for each of my small business seo clients is create lots of backlinks from a diverse array of sources.  I take an ethical approach, so that your link building strategy looks natural and you don’t wind up in Google’s sandbox – although it is not uncommon to fall prey to a “Google dance” one in a while.  Usually what I see is that my clients can reach the first page of Google within 3 months – for multiple keywords, and then they slowly move up from there.  That’s when the qualified traffic starts to come and that’s when the sales start to happen.

To find out which terms people are searching for to find your business, do some preliminary research using Google’s keyword tool.

Or, you can contact me and I’ll do it for you. I build my business working with small business owners who want to grab their share of the internet pie, by getting to the first page of Google for the right buyer keywords.  I can help you do the same.
